How I Use It
Lyrics Training is a website that allows students to practice their listening skills using music videos of target language songs from Youtube and a cloze-style game format. Songs are available in TEN different languages! The student selects a language, a genre of music and a song. The student can choose the level of difficulty of the cloze activity (10 % of words pulled out, 25% words pulled out, 50 % of words pulled out or 100 % words pulled out). The student hears the first line or two of the song and sees the number of letters in the missing word. The student then has to type in the missing word to keep the song going. Students who are stuck have the option of replaying the phrase from the song or skipping the missing word and moving on, but they lose points for that. Students have the option to log in and compete with other users for the highest score (points earned for speed and accuracy with the fill-ins), but logging in is not required for this site and users can do the cloze activities without creating an account.
I have used this in AP French 5 with students who are struggling with authentic listening passages to help train student ears. My students absolutely LOVE this site and use it independently from home in their spare time.
