How I Use It
The requirement for my 7th grade reading elective was to allow time for students to read. We decided to adopt LitPick to allow students the opportunity to preview books before they were published and to add a writing component with the required reviews. My school did register for the paid subscription. Students were allowed to pick a book of their choice and then provided with classroom time to read, discuss, and review the book. Student choice was important, but there were a few times when the books seemed a little mature for some of my even older students. Also, because the books are not usually the already popular choices, my students were reluctant at first to choose a book. However, after our first round of deliveries and reviews, students were very self-driven to select on their own.
I love the option of LitPick as a way to have students discover books that they wouldn't have normally read. The delivery time between books allowed my students to then read a more popular book or series in between. Also, the review process was great as a teacher and allowed me to give informal feedback to my students about writing and grammar.
