How Can Teachers Use It?

Though sometimes pitched as ideal for a flipped classroom, the 6th grade ELA video lessons are so specifically Common Core-aligned that they may be best as previews to your own units and assignments. There's excellent support in areas where students often struggle, such as recognizing mood and voice in a text, understanding idioms, or writing thesis statements. Many of the skills covered, moreover, are ideal not just for preparing students for Common Core assessments, but for middle school coursework in general.

Many of the lesson sets include anchor texts, leveled texts for practice, and performance assessments. You may want to begin by using the site as a planning resource before moving on to modeling how to follow the lessons with the whole class. Differentiated group work could be assigned thereafter.
