How I Use It
As a coach to parents and staff, videos highlight key concepts that might differ from the way math and reading were taught to them. Parents were able to preview strategy videos either with or without their children to support learning from home. I would often send teachers links to videos that modeled a new way to think about a math strategy. Our after-school Title program used the ELA videos to differentiation and support intervention. One teacher found that the students needed a link to an in-class activity or discussion to anchor the videos as she had mistakenly played videos for 4-5 days straight. :) Therefore, she learned to use them as introduction, review, intervention or extension to support her main lessons or activities.
My Take
While I know the trajectory of my content, it can be challenging to juggle remembering the best ways to model this content with my kids K-5 as I switch conversations and groups many times in a single day. LearnZillion lets me refresh the strategies that work best at each of those grade-levels and have confidence in the expertise I find at my fingertips in the videos.
