How I Use It
I used this product to further understanding of concepts I taught in class. Mostly LearnZillion was the tool I used for homework assignments and take home quizzes. Getting my classroom set up was very simple. I uploaded my class list and had passwords automatically generated. When students forgot or lost their passwords I had the ability to reset them. When using it during the 2013-2014 school year, there were many reported kinks. Students had trouble accessing the videos I assigned, or they would complete problems and then did not have data recorded for them. When working properly, the website would provide me, the teacher, with a time count of how long students spent on the website and how many questions they answered properly in post-video quizzes. The questions were also given in a random generator to help diminish the amount of cheating students could do.
As a teaching tool I would use this to give students a tool to practice and reaffirm what was taught in class. I believe that LearnZillion has great potential in becoming a teaching tool that could inspire flipped classroom learning, however only if kinks are addressed and fixed. For lower level students who need reinforcement, this tool would work great. More advanced students might require something a little more extensive and challenging.
