LearnZillion's 8th Grade Math module provides video lessons designed to teach students skills addressed by the Common Core standards. However, the videos here -- each of which is linked to a specific learning goal -- may be most useful for helping teachers learn and teach some specific CCSS-related skills. Teachers can review the videos and related lesson plans to increase their own knowledge of the standards; watching experienced colleagues instruct to the standards can be a benefit to any teacher's practice.

For students, teachers can assign individual videos for review or as a preview of a specific skill. LearnZillion could be a very helpful tool for flipped classrooms where video lessons can be watched at home and class time is spent practicing skills with the teacher. However, the practice problems here lack some of the extensive hints and feedback offered by other sites, like Khan Academy. In fact, combining some of Khan's practice problems with LearnZillon's teacher-created videos could be one trick towards helping students master some of these important foundational skills for high school math.

Full Disclosure: LearnZillion and Common Sense Education share funders; however, those relationships do not impact Common Sense Education's editorial independence and this learning rating.
