Just in time for back-to-school: New distance learning resources are available on Wide Open School.
Compared to some of LearnZillion's other offerings, the 7th Grade ELA module has fewer lesson sets and covers fewer standards. That said, there's special emphasis -- perhaps not surprisingly -- on argumentative writing. These lessons are connected either to a corresponding literature lesson, or to a real-life topic, like school lunches or kids' cell phone use. Also notable: Three of the six lesson sets for literature include anchor texts, leveled texts for practice, and performance assessments.
The content and instruction here are dense. The videos are very clear, but simple to the point that some kids might find them boring. You may want to begin using the site as a planning resource and then move on to some whole-class activities. Be sure to model how to follow the lessons for your class. From there assign your students some differentiated work, either individually or in groups.
