How I Use It
Initially I used LearnZillion videos with my second graders in a whole-group setting to introduce math concepts. However, after deciding to "flip" my math instruction, I would have students view the lesson videos independently so that I was able to work with other students. Because there are many lessons in a unit, I could easily differentiate my instruction, assigning the next lesson to learners who were ready to advance or assigning a previous lesson to students who needed extra practice. I did occasionally have problems with some of the videos not playing, but this may have been a bandwidth issue in my classroom.
I like to use LearnZillion videos as they complement the guided math and flipped instruction models that are the framework of my math instruction. Overall LearnZillion's curriculum is comprehensive and well thought-out, but not as engaging and interactive as other similar products that my students and I have used. While assigning videos without creating a roster within the site made LearnZillion easy to use, I may not have been able to take take full advantage of all of the site's features. With future classes, I may take the time to create a roster to see if my students and I may get any more benefit from the site.
