How I Use It
I saw an ad for the free Lalilo program and tried it as a literacy center station. I introduced the program whole-group and students were hooked. Students were easily able to access the app on iPads, select their name and begin the placement questions. Every student was excited to practice and show me what they know using the program. I have made Lalilo a permanent station during small group rotations, Lalilo is offered as a choice and it is used to support the students at all levels in my class because the program adapts to individual students' skills.
The best part of Lalilo is its ability to differentiate phonics, word family, sight word, and comprehension skills. It also has a breakdown of data that is easy to read at a glance. I can use the data provided from the dashboard to select small groups, skills to reteach and student ready for more challenging work. Lalilo could offer more sorting/ranking within the dashboard view to quickly sort student groups by skill. Having more reports that breakdown skill sets would also help teachers and students visualize growth over time.
