How I Use It
I use Lalilo as an activity during small group guided reading. Students work towards beating worlds and earning badges. After they beat a world we hang up their certificate on our Shout Out Board and as they earn badges they add those badges to the Wall of Fame. I use the data gained from Lalilo to see what students might be struggling with and tap into that during small group Fundations skills. If it is a skill that the entire class is struggling with we work it into Whole Group. Students have now started using Lalilo as a choice activity so they can beat worlds and earn extra badges to post on the Shout Out Board. At first a lot of students were not as into the game because they had to take a "quiz" in the beginning to set it up but now I see that all of my students are excited to use the app.
I LOVE that I get a weekly report on my students achievements and struggles. It really allows me to focus on what they might need more assistance in. A lot of other apps do not provide this kind of data so you cannot see if they are really using the game in a useful way. I know exactly how many minutes they have been playing and what they worked on. If I see a student only used the game for 4 minutes in a 20 minute station it means that they were probably not doing something they should be doing and I can go back and look in their internet history and see if there is a behavior issue that also needs to be addressed.
