How I Use It
I am a reading interventionist and I use it for my Tier 2 and Tier 3 kiddos. I love how it is fast paced. I only have my students for 30 minutes. The pace of the game allows them to go through and practice many skills during our short time, unlike other programs I use where half the time it is giving them instructions. This game places more of the responsibility and exploration of the skill onto the student. My students love this program so much that they beg to play it and play it at home as well. I even had to create a bulletin board with the different worlds they get to travel through. They love to move their llama on the bulletin board to brag about their explorations.
As an educator, I think it has a great curriculum for strengthening foundational reading skills. Even for my very low students, it scaffolds harder skills for them where they feel confident but they are also being challenged at the same time. The reports are also nice, even the for the free version. I am able to look at the skills they are struggling on and use that to guide my small group instruction.
It would be nice to have some extended learning resources. For instance, teacher directed lessons on those skills they are struggling on so when I pull them back I already had a lesson and didn't have to create my own or search for one.
