How I Use It
I have used Khan Academy for centers, homework reinforcement and differentiation. Teachers can monitor the skills and time the students spend on the site. Some of the things that worked are that after students get their work graded and assessed, they are sent the to Khan Academy center to practice standards that need reinforcement. I have also used the videos to teach a lesson. Students get excited when they see that they will be watching a video. However, the videos have a chalk -blackboard template - which is not appealing to certain kinds of learners.
My overall opinion about this project as a teaching tool is that it is effective. I saw growth in my students last year and so I am excited to use it again this year. I like the flexibility of skill choice as well as the functionality it provides. One draw back to this teaching tool is that the teacher cannot assign the work to the students. Overall, I would recommend this tool as a supplemental resource.
