How I Use It
Khan Academy is amazing. In the beginning of the school year, I set my students up with a Khan Academy account. I have all students "add me as a coach", this way I can stay up to date (receiving e-mails from Khan Academy on a weekly basis) with how my students are progressing. I can also recommend specific topics and videos to my students as their coach. Khan Academy's learning goal is for all students to learn using a growth mindset. Watching videos and completing practice problems (for reward points) at their own pace allows students to be in the stress-free learning environment that is needed to be academically successful.
I love using Khan Academy in my classroom. My students seem to have the same feeling about the website. I even allow my students to complete some mathematics lessons independently on Khan Academy's website. This give students the freedom to work as fast or slow as they'd like. I've observed that low level learners and special needs learners enjoy the site's resources the most. I've also witnessed my students completing Khan Academy time on weekends and on long breaks. I think the fact that my high school students are participating in mathematics learning on their own, out of pure enjoyment, says it all!
