How I Use It
Khan Academy is best used as a flipped classroom lesson. The presenter uses vocal instruction as well as a timed visual display to show students the methods of a lesson as well as to deliver spoken instruction. I like to use this site/app as a means to float around the room and intervene when students are having difficulties or need individual support. This type of resource allows for direct instruction to be given, while also allowing the teacher to deliver individual support. The web version is very stable and reliable. The app version does require updates and may not function properly on older devices. Most new devices will run this app without issue.
I would recommend this site/app to a teacher who is interested in providing more individual support to their students while still presenting a lesson that is engaging to the class as a whole. Khan Academy also supports students who learn at different speeds by allowing advanced learners to continue without direct teacher intervention. The site also has a great data tracking feature for students and teachers that have registered. This data can be used to see time on task, how well students are able to answer questions and what lessons the students are viewing. One way to improve the service would be to add content, which the site/app does on a regular basis.
