Take a look inside

Using Khan's 4th Grade Math content is an excellent way to introduce and reinforce early-elementary math concepts. Each Common Core-aligned tutorial includes several teaching videos and a set of practice exercises, complete with hints and links to supporting videos. Furthermore, teachers can make use of Khan's Missions to more easily personalize students' learning.

Some of the material here might be best used to introduce a unit. Give your students at least one full class period to explore the assigned content with a partner, having them take notes in pairs. Optionally, challenge each pair of students to complete a set of practice exercises (in the tutorial view) together, working collaboratively. Be sure to remind the class that this is only an introduction (a pre-assessment). Later, you can use the results as a discussion starter or a means to help measure progress as students move forward. From there, you could get students going on various parts of the 4th Grade Mission. Kids can return to any video throughout the unit; you can also show videos as part of your whole-class instruction to help reinforce certain concepts.
