How I Use It

I have used the program in many ways with K-2 students. We have students draw self portraits, practice words, create and illustrate stories, illustrate a season and more. There are many lesson plans available for the site. The spell a picture feature is great with first graders because as they type in letters, words that begin with that letter appear. If they type in the word correctly, a picture of the word is added to the screen. They might be on a space scene and think of things they might find in space and they can decorate the entire scene by spelling the words correctly. Second graders enjoyed creating stories and books. There are themes to choose from to help start a story. The site could work with older students as well but I only used it with K-2 so far.

My Take

Kerpoof is a fun online drawing and creation tool. It is easy to use, fun and engaging. The site includes "Spell a Picture", "Make a Card", "Make a Drawing", "Make a Picture"; "Tell a Story". The site has a lot of support to include ready-made lesson plans and how-to handouts for each tool in PDF format. The kids are engaged from the moment they open the site. There are so many tools to use, you won't be able to use them all. Students can use the site without signing up but would not be able to save and edit work again though they could save and print what is in progress. You can set up a class of students if you want students to be able to edit work. This is especially useful if students are creating a longer project like a story or book. Also, students with accounts can earn Kerpoof coins that allow for purchases in the store such as special animations for the movies, new animated characters, drawing features and more.
