How I Use It
I like to introduce literature that goes with the book theme with 2nd-5th graders. For example, I have read How I Became a Pirate by Miranda Long to the class, and then have had the students write their own pirate stories using the Pirate book theme in Kerpoof. They have a list of "pirate vocabulary" to include in the story. Because I am the technology teacher, I also had the students read their stories and recorded them, then put it with a screencast of the book.
Students can use Kerpoof's products in many ways - especially since the pictures can be exported as jpgs. Younger students (1st-3rd graders) like to use the Spell-A-Word to create pictures. I provide them with a list of theme words (ex. Ocean, Spring, etc.) which they type in. Then the picture can be exported into Word and sentences/stories written about the picture. The word bank is provided from the words they typed in.
Teachers can make great things happen with literacy in this website. Students can easily create pictures, books and movies that can be shared. The students love using it for projects and many request a copy of their logins to use to make projects at home. Easy to use with a diverse classroom.
