How I Use It
There are three types of Kahoot question so it can be used in more than one way. I predominantly use the quiz format and use it mainly for revision. All my grades, 6-12, love using it. With my G11 and 12 students I use multiple choice questions from past exam papers and give them the same time per question as they get in the exam. With my lower grades I usually write my own questions about a research task or similar. Students score more points for being right and being the fastest so there is a real buzz when they're using it. I find it particularly useful for ensuring whole-class participation as the noisier students can't sideline the introverts and there is none of the fear associated with speaking in front of the whole class. As long as students use their own names or an identifiable alias, then the data about who got which questions right/wrong is useful for planning the next activity. General trends about which questions were poorly answered are also easy to spot.
My Take
I really like it. I like that it can be played on any device with an internet connection and that it's so quick to get started during a lesson. Creating the quizzes can be very time consuming but there is a big public library of existing ones.
