How I Use It
I use Kahoot! In my language arts and math classes. One way that I have used it in language arts is as a spelling review game. The question that I use the whole way through the game is "Choose the correct spelling" and then I give four answer choices with three incorrect spellings and one incorrect spelling. I have also used Kahoot! As a way to review grammar. To review the four types of sentences, I had a sentence for my question and the answer choices were each of the four types of sentences. In math, I have used Kahoot! As a way to review vocabulary and multiplication facts.
I find that our game runs smoother when my students use iPads or laptops because they can situate themselves around the Smartboard so everyone can see. It took a few tries for us to develop a good seating arrangement in the computer lab so that everyone can see the screen. I have used some of the already games but have found that there is a chance for errors so it's best to preview them before playing with your class.
I think Kahoot! is a very useful tool for reviewing concepts. I like that it is a game format and that the students can type in a nickname and see their name on the screen and on the leaderboard. My students get very excited when we are going to "Kahoot" It" as they like to say. I like that it is a multiple choice format because it lends itself nicely to lower level learners. They can use process of elimination or choose one of the four answer choices and still participate in the game even if they get stuck on a question. A downfall is that the students only see the answer choices and not the question. Depending on the set. Up of your classroom this can present a problem if the students don't have a clear line of vision to the game screen.
