How I Use It
I use IXL for in class practice after a skill has been introduced. I also assign IXL for homework to review concepts without teacher support. For example, after introducing the topic of classifying polynomials by degree and number of terms, I have students use IXL to practice this same skill to get the practice that they need to master the skill. Whether the students use it in class or as homework, I am able to see (on the teacher end of the app) not only what they got correct or incorrect, but also how long they spent doing the work. I also use the other teacher features that IXL has to offer. There are many, many types of reports that the teacher can utilize: "trouble spots, state standards, performance and progress." It should be noted that I do not use IXL to introduce topics as there is not learning tool. There is however, followup and explanations for the student when they answer a question incorrectly.
One of the best, simple math practice applications for students and teachers. It doesn't have a lot of instruction for students but is VERY easy for students and teacher to use. Tracking student work is simple. The only complaint my students have is that they do not like losing so many points when they get a problem wrong. My only complaint is that you can't see any work/solutions and only the final answer. (But that is the nature of this application.)
