How I Use It
I use IXL as a supplement for my core math instruction as well as a means of practice for weak areas for students. Sometimes students were not on task and didn't try very hard, just selected answer choices. Other students were very motivated and worked through the lesson before advancing through the progression of lessons for that topic. Students also have access to variable grade levels, which can be renamed to levels by letter so there aren't negative connotations associated with working below grade level.
I like this program and plan to continue using it next year. It offers the ability to differentiate so that all learners needs can be met regarding appropriate grade level assignments. However, the program does not read the text to students. Therefore, struggling readers or ELL children may have difficulty with independent practice.
