How I Use It
I use this as a math computer workstation for students to work on practicing individual skill needs independently. I also use this once a week in the computer lab to reinforce a particular standard that has been taught or focused on that week so I can do an informal assessment and use as an opportunity for reteaching.
IXL is a great tech tool to use with students. The teacher has the ability to access multiple grade levels to individualize for the varying student levels. This allows students to practice needed math skills and to challenge themselves with higher level skills as well. This can be used as homework since the students can access it from home once they have their user name and password. The skills to practice can be teacher directed or student directed. The kids earn stickers as they complete a section. These simple stickers earned are motivating for younger students. Teachers can track the progress of students for their own use and to communicate with parents. There are colorful visuals for the math problems. The skills are aligned to standards. The reason I did not give a rating of five stars is because there needs to be more access to directions being read to students. It would be helpful if the directions and questions were available to listen to in multiple languages to meet the needs of ELL and lower literacy students.
