How I Use It
Teaching young learners, I start introducing IXL whole group and then follow up with small group and one on one instruction (when necessary) until every student is comfortable navigating around the site independently. I print off certificates and post in the classroom. For homework I assign time limits instead of topics, so they can choose what they would like to work on.
IXL is a resource to supplement learning that occurs in the classroom. Students access IXL through any internet connection; from school or at home. IXL is engaging and motivating as the students practice math skills they are earning stickers for their "reward sheet." IXL will read story problems for the young learners who can't yet read so a parent or teacher does not have to sit and give one on one attention or instruction to a child. Once the roster is set, reports are sent to the teacher and parents providing feedback of student's mastered skills, skills that need to be worked on, and how often and when the student are on IXL.
