How I Use It
iCivics is a fun way to get students interested in U.S. government. I used iCivics in the computer lab with my classes to help introduce the concept of democracy and the three branches of government. By the end of the lesson, when we met back as a group the students were able to identify the three branches of governments, their functions, and had a good overall concept of democracy. Some students were sidetracked by the game more than learning. However, most students were engaged in the lesson and excited to learn about U.S. government.
My Take
iCivics is a great resource to introduce key government concepts and the structure of our government. iCivics is a elementary approach to government, it could easily be called government for beginners. This website is not for upper level learning. However, I enjoyed that students were able to go at their own pace and learn at their own level. The students thoroughly enjoyed the aspect of games that teaches the concepts. I also enjoyed that students were excited to work together in order to complete tasks and learn about the government. iCivics is a great site that introduces government in a fun and exciting way.
