How Can Teachers Use It?

The Verbs module from Grammaropolis covers action verbs and being verbs, as well as transitive and intransitive verbs, using textbook-style slideshows, a short music video, and quizzes. The video here covers quite a bit -- it's important to know that there's quite a jump between understanding the more basic verbs (action and being) and the ability to decipher differences between transitive and intransitive verbs. So, while the video can work for elementary students, only the first part of the quizzes will be useful. On the other hand, middle schoolers may benefit the most, with fun review as well as info on transitive and intransitive verbs.

You'll do best to have your students work through a path, with both the video and the quizzes, that suits their level appropriately -- you can monitor individual progress through the site's teacher reports. Once your students have a better grasp of proper verb use, encourage them to apply this knowledge into their writing. Students might self- or peer-edit a piece of writing to find and update all linking verbs, before going back to recast their own sentences.
