How Can Teachers Use It?

Grammaropolis' Adverbs module takes kids through several short multimedia lessons and activities on adverbs, covering everything adverbs do and how they modify other parts of speech. The music video "Do You Qualify" will have kids singing along -- "Adverbs do what I say" and "I'll tell you how, when, where, and under what condition" -- with the energy of a coach at a football game. Two short video skits show how adverbs modify verbs and how they modify adjectives.

You could show the videos as whole-class introductions or reviews, depending on the grade level you teach. Also, depending on your classroom setup, your kids could work through the lessons and quizzes at their own pace while you offer intervention and monitor progress through the handy reports. If some students master adverbs quickly, have them play some of the parts-of-speech games included on the site. Or, better yet, have them get started on a revision project -- they can work on incorporating adverbs into a piece of their own writing.
