How I Use It
I am currently using Google Sites as an eportfolio tool with Grade 11 and 12 students. Each student accessed a my template and then invited to create a curated collection of their technology assets including a variety of Google Slides, Docs, YouTube videos and images. I also showed them how to embed content through copying and pasting html code. Using the commenting option allowed me to offer suggestions, guidance and feedback on their progress in creating the sites. I also used badges (Credly, classbadges.org and other tools like Power Point and PhotoShop) as a method for students to monitor their progress and have choice and incentive to create and customize their site.
My Take
Students needed much guidance, video and site getting started with using templates, banners, themes, use of columns and adding content. However, once this initial training was complete, they were quite to build and create their sites. The badges worked well but I had to work hard with 36 sites to monitor and award banners. However, this site was a great tools to allow students create decent sites without having to know any (or very little) hmtl coding.
