How I Use It
I used Google Sites to create my class website. Google Sites makes it easy to embed videos, add calendars, and post pictures to a website. I had multiple subpages on my website (such as a class calendar page, a homework page, a book trailer book, etc.) and found that my parents and students were able to access these pages quickly and easily. I also used the website to communicate information with my students and their families. Additionally, once my students were taught how to use Google Sites, they created their own websites, or as we called them digital portfolios. Each student had their own digital portfolio and customized it to their liking. I required students to create a page for their essays, a page for their presentations, and a page for their artwork. After creating those pages, students were creative and constructed pages based on their interests, such as "My Favorite Books" page or "All About Me" page. Overall, I was very pleased with Google Sites and will continue using it within my classroom.
My students and I really enjoyed using Google Sites last year. When I began using Google Sites, I was a bit overwhelmed by its capabilities and tools. However, I watched a "how-to" video online and quickly learned how to utilize all the tools Google Sites has to offer. Once I felt confident in using Google Sites, I taught my students how to use it. I found that my students were able to easily navigate Google Sites, even learning new tricks that I did not know.
