How I Use It
I have been using Google Hangout with my 7th grade students and also with adults when I offer training courses. Both, my students and adult learners have engaged in conversations thanks to Google hangouts. With my 7th graders we can have oral lessons or dialogues when they are outside the school, so it helps extend the learning time for blended teaching and learning environments. For adults, it helps to join video conferences to participate in real time from any where in the world through any device. Sometimes is the students do not move the mouse to often it can disconnect or ask them if they are still in the video conference. Sometimes it does not work if their mics are not enable so it can be frustrating, it is always important to show students a brief tutorial about where things are located on Google Hangouts.
My overall opinion is that it is an excellent tool for asynchronous or blended learning. It allows students, teachers and parents to be connected and allows communication, promoting learning. My students benefit from having conversations in the target language with me through a video conference. It is very user friendly and it is free. Students can add an App for Hangouts which help them chat and video conference as well.
