Google Earth is a great way to show students the world from the classroom.

How I Use It
When we are talking about places in Social Studies, I use Google Earth to show them where it is and how far away it is. They can see actual satellite imagery of what we are studying i.e. the Pyramids of Egypt. In the case of the Pyramids, it gave them perspective about their size and relation to other sites nearby that we talked about. Even though we had seen other photographs and videos, this somehow seemed more real to them because I was actually manipulating what we saw.
My Take
I like to use Google Earth to show students where places are in the world. It also shows relation to other places. It gives students a visual and perspective of what we are talking about. There is not much actual learning about the places from Google Earth, but it is an excellent support in my lessons.
