How I Use It
Initially, I would use Flocabulary to show students creative ways to explore and learn history. I would play songs and videos from the specific period we are discussing to strengthen the lesson. For the first unit or so I would continue to show students how they can use these songs to remember key historical events. I would then transition from using the songs as an instructional tool to having students actually create songs themselves.
My Take
The songs give a different and creative approach to history. It helps some students with memorization but does not give in-depth analysis or explanation of each event. I feel that having students create their own song or rap about history, which is modeled off of the materials from the site, expresses how they interact with the content. Students can highlight what specifically interests them about a particular period in history.
