How I Use It
I would watch the Week in Rap with my students every week. I would slow the video down so that it didn't overwhelm my class. Students would follow along with the provided fill-in-the-blank lyric sheet. I would ask students to let me know when I needed to pause so they could fill it in. Most videos come with the option to have discussion questions pop up while watching. This is a great way to get students talking and thinking. After we watch, students would complete the related worksheet given by Flocabulary. This would include things like vocabulary, crossword puzzles or map labeling. It was a great way to get students engaged in the world around them. They actually enjoy the raps and they can be catchy! It was a great way to get apathetic learning to engage.
My Take
I liked how the video could be slowed down. As a special education teacher, it is so important to make things accessible for my students. I also liked that I could choose between Week in Rap or Week in Rap Jr. This helped me to decide which version was most appropriate for my students that week. It was great that all the worksheets you need for the video are all in one place. I don't have to search for anything supplemental. Plus, discussion questions are built right in to help you get students thinking. I love how engaging Flocabulary is and it helps my high school students get excited about learning.
