How I Use It
I use this product every week in my teaching. Flocabulary.com has a lot of music videos for many different subjects and across all grade levels. I teach a research skills class to 7th and 8th graders. Every Friday, the class participates in "Flocab Fridays". The website offers a "This Week in Rap" song every Friday that gives a quick glimpse to the students of world news. Each main topic that is talked about also has a short description of the news event as well as a hyperlink to a news source about that event. The class will work through those short news descriptions. For the weekend the students chose an article on which to complete a writing assignment. The students love Flocab Fridays! This is a great tool to make news accessible to students.
My Take
I love using this website. I used to have the students work on a current events assignment using the newspaper or different news websites. This website has made the whole project into something different. The students are engaged with the song and the articles. The critique that I have is that sometimes I have a problem with the news that they chose to cover. This is not an all inclusive current events site. I realize that not everything can be covered in a 2 minute song. Just know that you may have to supplement with some other articles.
