How I Use It
I usually use this as a way to introduce the vocabulary for a unit. I usually play a few times first to give the students a chance to hear it and then listen and learn the key vocabulary. I teach in a building where we team our students together. There are several teachers on my team that use the flocabulary in their classrooms as well, so the students really get into the flocabulary lessons as a different way to learn the vocabulary. I have even had students write their own raps to help them to learn and retain information that is not covered in the flocabulary lessons.
My Take
Flocabulary is a great way for students to be introduced to vocabulary for a unit. It can also be used as a way to reinforce what you are currently teaching. The songs are catchy and stick in the students head. The students get into the raps and it helps them to retain the vocabulary. The videos are also great as it provides support for the visual learners. The tests and quizzes are easy and quick ways to asses comprehension and understanding. If flocabulary is used too frequently, sometimes students will become unengaged.
