Teacher Review for Empatico

Great way for students to learn from students in a geologically different area!

How I Use It
Once I created an account, I waited for Empatico to set me up with another classroom. Even though I am in HI, and the time difference was difficult to manage, we found time that worked for both of our classrooms to have a video chat. It was a great experience! Empatico provides all the lesson plans that you need. For example, my students did a Landmarks activity, and used the opportunity to learn about Kilauea volcano. The lessons were easy to follow. Empatico's video worked on my end, but my partner class had some trouble using Empatico with their school wifi and restrictions, so double check if the video works. We used zoom as a work around so definitely not a deal breaker.
My Take
I really enjoyed having my students learn and empathize with other students. I found it valuable in terms of building global citizens, so that they look beyond the four walls of their classroom and beyond their island to find similarities with students thousands of miles away. Empatico's lesson plans are so easy to follow that I will definitely continue utilizing them beyond this school year. My students were beyond excited to connect with another classroom, and the classroom engagement level to learn about our landmark was high.
