How I Use It
Edmodo is a safe way to keep control of online discussions. I can create a group for each of my classes, invite students in and then lock the class so no one else can enter. Within that larger group I can put students into smaller groups, pose a question for the group and students post their responses similar to a Facebook page.
The program also allows me to create a library of class materials that I can assign to students. You can create quizzes and keep track of students' progress. It also has a poll feature. Students can download the free app to their phone. I can ask a question in class and they can watch the poll results.
I have been using Edmodo for about three years now and it works well in the classroom. I like that my materials can be pulled out of the library and shared with the students. It also archives classes so I can go back and review discussions from previous groups to show students what a productive discussion looks like.
