How I Use It
Edmodo offers a safe environment for students to engage and communicate. Within Edmodo I was able to set up small discussion groups where a prompt was given for discussion. Students can be strategically placed in groups to encourage deeper discussions which can be easily monitored. The environment is closed to the public, which parents appreciate.
Students were able to share videos and ideas through Edmodo as well as comment and reflect. One of the best features that I used was to upload photos that students needed to make inferences on in the discussions. One of the downfalls is that the students can immediately see responses and may not write with an original idea.
Edmodo is a safe environment that offers collaborative tools as well and reflective pieces. Students are able to locate assignments, take tests and upload completed projects that can be shared globally using a unique code that keeps the "class" safe.
As a teacher, the PD is especially helpful for professional learning. I have joined at least 20 groups that I can ask questions or read through to find new innovative ideas. Edmodo is easy to use and there are groups that will help through the process if you are a newbie. This is one of my favorite collaborative tools that I share with other staff members because it continually improving.
