How I Use It
This is the first year that I have utilized Edmodo. I really like that is mimics the look and some of the features of facebook but in a safe way that teachers can easily manage. It offers the ability for tech savvy teachers to enrich their curriculum by posting all work in one spot so that students wont have several different locations to hunt and submit assignments. Some of the drawbacks to Edmodo are that if you have several small groups included in one main large group, it can be time consuming to give students rights to specific information. This year we had over 1000 members in one large group and it was necessary for me to give rights to students to each of the small groups that we added. This was time consuming and seemed a bit ridiculous. So far this is the only negative that I can say about Edmodo.
My Take
Overall I think that Edmodo is a great tool for teachers to utilize! It allows them to communicate with their students easily and students can also communicate with one another easily and safely with teacher control. I like how the look and fell of Edmodo is similar to facebook and because of this students seem to instinctively know how to navigate and access the information that they need. Students also really like to be awarded the badges that teachers can create. Overall I really like Edmodo!
