How I Use It

I used this tool with 4th grade students to introduce them to blogging and communicating in a safe and contained environment. Students posted research tasks and writing from prompts. They were really excited to be communicating online and I liked the ability to approve all communication before it was posted. Students also branched out into the other tools and began to share and scaffold each other as they learned.

My Take

Edmodo is a great tool for introducing students to an online classroom environment similar to Blackboard. It also includes some social media components. It allows teachers to assign tasks and assessments, as well as create small groups for discussion. I did not like the fact that students are not able to create a draft (at least not that I could find) when they write a post. My fourth grade students struggled with writing and needed to be able to revise and edit.
