How I Use It
I use Edmodo for my warm-ups. Students come in, log-in, and complete a task. Meanwhile I am taking roll, doing whatever paperwork I have to do- five minutes later we're all done and we come together. I also use it for quizzes. I can load a pre-made quiz or I can create one there. It will grade the quiz and I can import the file to my gradebook. I also use it for flipped-assignments. I can set up a lesson students can complete at home on Edmodo, then we come to school and discuss or use what they learned on their own.
My Take
You get out of Edmodo what you put into it. Once you set up a quiz or a lesson, the students can take over the process. They feel ownership of their learning. If you want to use it occasionally, you can, or you can train your students to go there for the main part of your lesson. Also, the communities of teachers are SO HELPFUL. The only negative is that it can be difficult at first to FIND those communities.
