How I Use It
1. I assign homework written homework assignments.
2. I have them post questions and then encourage others to reply to their peers' questions.
3. I assign quick multiple choice comprehension checks.
4. I post fun polls to find misconceptions of science concepts.
All of these are a great way to stay in touch with student learning. The biggest issue that came up in the class last year was that Edmodo sometimes lost their work as they were typing. We started writing in Pages and pasting it into Edmodo.
I like that the students can comment on each others' replies and answer questions about posted homework among themselves before turning to me. I like that I can grade student work as it is handed in to me, so I don't have an overwhelming pile of papers at the end of each day that shows the work from the day before. This helps me stay more on top of their learning. It changed drastically since last year, so it took a while to navigate at the beginning of this year. I find that the computer has more capabilities than the iPad app, which is disappointing when I am trying to grade and comment on their work form home.
