How I Use It
As a literature teacher, my students are required to read independently each month. At the end of the month, students use Edmodo to write a summary and review of the book they are reading. This allows me to have "book talks" with them without using class time, and other students in the class can get ideas about what to read from peers. I've also used Edmodo with my advanced students and their independent studies. For each unit, they read a separate book independently. They have to post on Edmodo weekly regarding various topics and comment and interact with one another. Edmodo allows the students to learn much more without taking away class time.
Edmodo is a social forum that allows for surveys, discussions, uploading material, and commenting. It is a safe, secure environment in which the teacher can set-up classes that the students may privately join. The teacher has the power to assign tasks, moderate discussions, or, back away and allow Edmodo to be more student led. I believe Edmodo is best used outside of the classroom to facilitate further discussion and leaning outside the bounds of a class period.
