How I Use It
Fifth grade students created individual animations with a problem-solution structure. Prior to using Domo Animate, students selected a problem faced by many students, such as waking up late on the day of a big project or feeling left out. They created and wrote the text in the animation to set the stage for the problem and show one way that a person could effectively solve the problem. I found it helpful to give them a session to experiment with the functions of the website before actually working on the project. Students were very adept at using all the tools. Characters have action, movement and facial expression options. Be aware that some of the figures are a bit sexist and that handheld props in the "Stick Figure" category include guns and other weapons. There are also some actions for certain characters that may be inappropriate, such as: slap, get kicked and fart on! This could be a great opportunity however to discuss guidelines appropriate to your setting.
This program has sophisticated features that are easy to use including scenes, props, music, effects and timing options. With the detailed options for characters, Domo Animate can provide a great platform for storytelling and animation. The ability to share projects easily provides authentic audiences.
