How I Use It
This is an interest-driven, self-paced site, engaging learners in the engineering design process. This site works well for choice in exploration rather than whole class instruction. If this were to be used directly with standards, it would need additional material, as it does not give content lessons. This also works as an extension to the regular classroom, as learners can choose from a variety of different science categories. Once a challenge is choses, learners can upload pictures, video or text to share each stage of the design process.
This is great, especially if you have maker spaces or exploration time built into your school day. I loved the choice and self-directed part of this site, as well as the feedback from mentors in the redesign process. This would be especially helpful when actually teaching the design process, as every challenge specifically walks through each stage. I also was impressed with a more universal design for learning, with various media options for learners to share their ideas and process. This is a great site to use in conjunction with other teaching materials to help with authentic stem experiences.
