How I Use It
I would use this product in my social studies classroom. Since students are at all different reading levels, sometimes it becomes difficult to integrate reading practice into social studies lessons, especially for diverse learners. As a result, this would be useful in finding texts that convey the same information but with different supports and scaffolding provided to students who might need that extra reading support. I appreciate this tool because it would allow my students who might not need the extra support to do some differentiated, but still independent work while I work on instructing students with more needs.
My Take
I really appreciate this tool as a way to also integrate technology into the classroom. Since students would gain the same knowledge or be completing the same task -reading and analyzing a historic text- this would fall in the Substitution portion of the SAMR framework. With the proper, direct instruction of the tools provided by CommonLit, it could serve as a great implementation of TPACK. Although this use of technology falls much lower on the SAMR framework, it still provides as an invaluable tool for differentiated learning,
