How I Use It
I used this site to introduce coding while we were talking about computer science and what goes into building their favorite digital activities. As a lead in, we talked about students favorite digital games and other online activities which led to a discussion about how those things were put together. The term coding and what it means was introduced and we went to this site and explored the resources. After the students where able to work on a coding activity for a set time, we regrouped and talked about our success and challenges when we were coding. We also talked about how much trial and error went into making some of the lessons work and how that process applies to everything we do.
My Take
This product is a great way to introduce students to coding in a friendly and fun manner. The activities build on themselves and allow students of all skill levels to work at their own pace. Hints and tips also allow those who might struggle a chance to figure out the answers on their own. One of the best things about this product is how engaged the students are when they are working on their coding activity. Students who normally struggle to pay attention for longer periods were completely engrossed for the duration of their lesson while using this site.
