How I Use It
Codecademy is a great way for students to learn programming for free. There is an area dedicated for schools which provides resources, curriculum and the ability to track student performance. There is even a direct link to participate in the hour of code. Having participated in the hour of code (though) not with this particular tutorial, I can say the following. It was easy to set up classes and track student performance. Every student was engaged once they started working. Each part of the programming is broken down into easy to digest lesson. Students feel successful and compelled to move on!
My Take
As I teach computers I love the way the lessons are interactive and broken down for the students. I use to have to make my own lessons and teach whole class but this provides students with the ability to move at their own pace. I like the idea of projects and besides the tutorial to learn the code there is also the opportunity to create your own website as well as other projects. Great real world examples.
