How I Use It
I used this product to connect with students and their families during distance learning. I filmed short videos of read alouds, instruction, and reminders. This worked great because students and parents could watch them. I also used this resource to send messages to families. The best part of this feature was parents were able to set the language they received messages in. I could also schedule messages to go out at a specific time (ex. 30 minutes before class Zoom). Another feature that was great about messages is you can message one parent or the whole class. If you message the whole class their response only comes to the teacher. I like that it came to my phone and gave me a notification when a parent sent a message without having to give out my cellphone number.
It was also a great way for students to send me pictures of their completed work. Students enjoyed this. The writing ability was difficult for some of my students to use. Another challenge was the QR codes sometimes didn't work for students to login.
Another piece of Class Dojo I use are the growth mindset videos. I use these at the beginning of the year as we are developing our classroom culture of growth mindset. Students enjoy the videos and connect to the content.
My overall opinion of this as a teaching tool is that it is great addition to lessons on growth mindset, connecting with families to help continuation of learning at home, and for students to be able to share their learning with the teacher. The app also allows the teacher to use it to send out short direct instructional videos, how-to tutorials, and read alouds. I am looking forward to seeing the worksheet addition they are adding this fall. It would be nice to be able to share interactive documents through this app with students.
