How I Use It
I use Class Dojo daily during my instructional day. Using it allows me to keep track of the negative and positive behaviors occurring in my class. I analyze the data each week and determine the areas of strength for my class (or even individual students) and the areas that need improvement.
This app is also very helpful with parent communication. I can send individual messages to parents or send out blast messages to all parents that have signed up for my class. Parents also receive a behavior progress report on the app so they can also see what behaviors their child is displaying and any patterns that may arise. I teach in a low income area and the app is free for teachers, parents and students which is awesome and gives me the ability to reach more families.
Students also have the ability to create a free student account (with parent permission) to track their behavior and change their dojo monster.
I use the dojo points as a reward/consequence system in my classroom. Students can earn prizes for the number of points they have earned. For example a student can earn lunch bunch with the teacher when they have earned 30 dojo points.
I have used Dojo for many years and the improvements they have made with the app are amazing! I can now group students and have the ability to assign or remove points for certain groups of students, the entire class, or individual students.
I would say most of the features are very functional and easily adaptable to every classroom. However, I find the only issue I come across is when I want to keep my Dojo on my main screen but have to use another website or my document camera.
I love using class dojo in my classroom! It has been very beneficial in aiding in my classroom management skills and helping to redirect my students. I like that the program is user friendly and and very colorful and engaging for the students. I believe this will help my teaching because I understand the behaviors of my students better and can offer supports to redirect the behaviors and celebrate the positive!
