How I Use It
Class Dojo is a great tool for helping your students learn from their behaviors. This is a website as well as an app. I use this in my 5th grade classroom to help promote positive behaviors. This is a very useful too because parents are able to receive updates on how their student is doing. They are able to see are they earning positive or negative points for the day. I set a goal for being 85% positive for the month and then they can earn a reward.
The students enjoy this because they can create their own monster avatar. Here they get to be creative and express themselves. There are many great features to use as well. There is a timer, messenger to parents, and class story. The class story is a great alternative if you do not have a class website.
This is a great program for elementary students. Having the students be accountable for their actions is a great way to help the learn from their behaviors. Also have the parents’ involved helps with cutting down on many of the negative behaviors. There are many positives to using this program. It is an app as well as an Internet based program. This helps as I can walk around with my iPad or phone and mark behaviors.
One of the major downfalls is that you need a parents email address for the students to sign up. This can become a problem because if a parent doesn’t have one or want to share, then the student cannot sign up. If your students have their own school email address, then they can use that.
This is a must have for any elementary teacher.
